Meijo University Professor Akasaki, 2014 Nobel laureate in physics, arrived in Sweden in the morning of December 6 (in the evening of December 6 Japan time). Professor Asakai was greeted by Nobel Foundation officials at the airport. They moved to the five-star Grand Hotel, in Stockholm by his chartered car. Professor Akasaki stepped out of his car to walk on a red carpet laid down at the entrance of the hotel, where about 30 Japanese and local reporters were waiting for him.
Professor Akasaki with a mask and hat on, entered the hotel smiling and saying, “I have finally arrived here,” though he hardly answered reporters’ questions due to exhaustion from the long journey.

Professor Akasaki will attend various official events including the Nobel Lecture at 4:00 p.m. on the 10th (midnight of 11th Japan time) and the Nobel Prize presentation ceremony to be held in the Stockholm Concert Hall.
